Canada Factoid
Canada is located right at the North Pole. Unfortunately, Santa is no where to be found. However, there is something very spectacular that occurs at night between the months of March to April and September to October.
The Aurora Borealis, also referred to as the Northern Lights, are caused by the collision of charged particles from the Earth's magnetic field. At the South Pole, there is a similar phenomenon called the Aurora Australis.
They are visible at the poles due to the longer nights and the proximity of the magnetic poles.
Did you know that other planets, such as Mars, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn also have auroras?

((Go Canada!!!!))
Remember the following -
- Always show good sportsmanship - points will be awarded when observed, and points will be deducted when poor behavior is observed
- If outside, make sure to take precautions to stay hydrated. Soft drinks do not offer the hydrating effect that water has, so drink plenty of water.
- If you are prone to sunburns, take precautions, such as sunscreen. I will be.
- Remember to have fun - in moderation. We are still in school, and must behave as such.

Tornado!!!!
Recent weather has created a massive amount of tornadoes. Over 150 tornadoes were reported on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. Remember the differences between watches and warnings.
- A watch is issued when conditions are favorable for the weather event (thunderstorm, tornado, hurricane). Use caution - it is usually best to be in a building.
- A warning is issued when the event is HERE!!! It means to take shelter immediately. It is NOT advisable that you stand by windows as high winds and hail may break them. For a tornado, attempt to locate a closet, a bathroom, a basement, or cellar in which to hide.
